As the South Africa Absa Premiership season ends this weekend, some Malawian players would be involved in crucial relegation battles.<\/p>\n
The Flames forward Atusaye Nyondo\u2019s University of Pretoria are bottom of the standings with 22 points from 29 matches, while Micium Mhone\u2019s Jomo Cosmos are in the danger zone with 25 points from 29 matches.<\/p>\n
Cosmos are a point above second-from-bottom Maritzburg United.<\/p>\n
Esau Kanyenda\u2019s Polokwane City are all but safe on 13th place, five points ahead of Cosmos.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Cosmos face Maritzburg in a must-win tie, whereas Pretoria welcome in-form Golden Arrows, needing nothing short of victory to survive relegation.<\/p>\n
Ironically, another Flames star, Gabadinho Mhango, has been touted as the man to sink his countryman Nyondo.<\/p>\n
If Nyondo\u2019s side win on Saturday, they would qualify for the promotion\/relegation play-offs, but they must hope for a Cosmos\/Maritzburg draw.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is possible,\u201d said Nyondo, who has had another injury-ridden season at the Shaun Bartlett-led side.<\/p>\n
In a separate interview, Mhone said he was hopeful that his side would escape the drop.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a difficult game because we are meeting a team that is also fighting relegation. It is also a good side, therefore, we expect a tough match. We want to get victory at all cost even though a draw would be enough for us to stay up or make it to the relegation play-offs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mhone, who has scored one goal in his debut season in South Africa, said it was of utmost importance to stay in the topflight for the sake of advancing his career.<\/p>\n
