Madeira addressed the press at Wanderers Club House in Blantyre, amid the panic following the team’s feeble TNM Super League displays.

Madeira also insisted that he had always been serving in his current role this season and not as Vice-Team Manager. However, Madeira, like a cunning boxer, ducked questions on what becomes of Chiyembekezo Zidana, who was the team manager.

“The information I got from General Secretary, Mike Butao, this morning is that Eddie will be assisting Elia Kananji as coach while Jack reverts to his role as TD,” said Madeira while being flanked by strikers, Peter Wadabwa and Jabulani Linje.

“We have raised our hands to say sorry to the supporters for the bad results. The reasons are technical, but we hope to turn the corner starting from the game against Red Lions [today]. Six points from five games is unacceptable, but it is too early to press the panic button.”

Following Sunday’s 2-3 loss to Mafco that saw the Nomads plunging from position six to 10 on the league’s log table, Wadabwa and Linje took turns to apologise to their supporters, while promising to pull up their socks from Wednesday’s Presidential Cup game against the Lions at Kamuzu Stadium.

However, Ng’onamo and Chamangwana were conspicuously missing during Tuesday’s training session at Kamuzu Stadium, where Kananji took the players through the paces.

“The club comes first. No one is bigger than the club. If a decision is in the interest of the team, we have to accept it. When you have many talented players, sometimes they think there is no way they can lose games. It is not talent or names that win you games. You have to work hard and that is what has been missing,” Chamangwana explained.

Chamangwana leaves the hot seat with a record of one win, three draws and a loss. Zimbabwean Rahman Gumbo was the last coach to earn the Nomads a league title in 2006.

Be Forward Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira, while shouldering the weight of responsibility and trying to be diplomatic, Tuesday confirmed that Eddington Ng’onamo is now the Nomads’ coach, replacing Jack Chamangwana.
