Flora Suya has for the past years proven her acting prowess and in the process winning the hearts of many people.<\/p>\n
Her central roles in, among other movies, Shemu Joyah\u2019s films Seasons of a Life <\/em>and The Last Fishing Boat <\/em>received wide acclaim.<\/p>\n And if that was not enough, she went on to star in a Zambian movie Chenda<\/em>.<\/p>\n But having sparkled with acting, Suya has expanded her base and this time she is out with her own movie My Mother\u2019s Story <\/em>set to premiere on May 28, 2016 at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n Suya revealed yesterday that Vice President Saulos Chilima will be the guest of honour during the premiere of the one hour and 30 minutes movie which was shot in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n The actress wrote the story and directed it together with Bester Kauwa. She also stars in the film.<\/p>\n \u201cI am excited it\u2019s been my dream to work on my own movie and so I am happy that finally I have a film to show. It has not been that easy but I have worked hard,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n The actress said this was the beginning of more things to come and that people should expect to see more of her working as a film maker rather than restricting herself to acting only.<\/p>\n \u201cI was inspired to work on my movie after I went to Zambia where I starred in Chenda<\/em>. I saw several film makers working on low budget movies but of good quality,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n She further said that she has spent close to K2.5 million<\/p>\n to produce the movie starting from pre-production (three weeks), shooting (six weeks) and editing (nine months.)<\/p>\n Suya added that this will not only be a premiere but she will also launch a DVD of the film.<\/p>\n \u201cI know it is a disadvantage to me to have the DVD ready as some international film festivals would not be reluctant to screen it but I also had to consider people\u2019s complaints,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n She said people have been complaining that a lot of movies are premiered in the country without copies on the ground.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I do not want to have a gap and this is why I have gone ahead with the DVD launch and have the copies distributed so as to minimise piracy,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n The actress said the premiere will have a red carpet and that apart from screening the film, there will also be performances from a dance troupe and gospel singer Gloria Manong\u2019a, who produced the sound track for My Mother\u2019s Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n Suya called on people to come in large numbers and patronise the launch for the love of arts.<\/p>\n \u201cFor us artists to continue doing well in the industry we need support. This is why I am calling upon people to show their love by patronising the premiere and also buy original DVDs once the film is out. I have tried as much to produce more copies,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The premiere will see people parting with K5, 000 for standard tickets and K10, 000 for VIP.<\/p>\n \u201cFor now I will only have the launch in Lilongwe because people will have bought DVDs. But I am targeting private screenings in Blantyre and other areas. All I can say is that the movie is of high quality and its story is very African and Malawian,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n According to Suya, My Mother\u2019s Story <\/em>is about a young woman who works as a housemaid and is impregnated by a gardener, and later abandoned.<\/p>\n Whilst still pregnant she meets another man who falls for her and life changes but tragedy later strikes.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an emotional story of love, betrayal and differences in social status. But one main lesson in there is that don\u2019t judge people until you know their whole story,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n Some of the actors starring in the film are Tapiwa Gwaza, Miriam Mwazimva, comedian Diana Satha, Jeremiah Mwaungulu and Times Television presenter cum musician Annie Matumbi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Flora Suya has for the past years proven her acting prowess and in the process winning the hearts of many people.
