{"id":24328,"date":"2016-05-16T09:41:38","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T07:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=24328"},"modified":"2016-05-16T09:41:38","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T07:41:38","slug":"fam-to-receive-k863m-from-fifa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/16\/fam-to-receive-k863m-from-fifa\/","title":{"rendered":"Fam to receive K863m from Fifa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will, alongside other 201 Fifa member associations, now be receiving K863,161,000 (U$S1.25 million) annually following the world football governing body\u2019s decision to increase the grant from K271, 600,000 (U$S400,000).<\/p>\n<p>Fifa\u2019s 66th Congress, held in Mexico last week, resolved to increase the Forward Programme funding, which is for projects.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa President, Gianni Infantino, hosted the congress which attracted delegates such as Fam second-Vice-President, Othaniel Hara.<\/p>\n<p>Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, confirmed on Saturday that they had engaged Fifa on funding for projects such as refurbishment of Luwinga Technical Centre in Mzuzu, constructing a technical centre in Lilongwe, a football academy and expanding Chiwembe Stadium into a 20,000-seater by 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI support the initiative by Fifa to make the budget pro-development. Investment in infrastructure and grassroots football will play a key role in bridging the gap with the developed countries,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>During the congress, Infantino warned the member associations, including Fam, not to bet r ay the organisation\u2019s trust after the increase in the development funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t betray us, use it for football. What we are putting in place is a mechanism which will make sure Fifa is much more involved with the Member Associations,\u201d Infantino said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn a very practical level, we will make sure the money is really invested into football and doesn\u2019t end up in the wrong place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A total of US$500,000 of that will come from what Infantino describes as \u201crunning costs\u201d, which will be granted to the countries provided they fulfill a minimum of eight of ten requirements, Insidesports website reported over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>These range from being awarded US$50,000 for the appointment of a secretary general to being handed the same amount for \u201crunning an initiative or project related to integrity or good governance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa will grant the other US$750,000 for projects \u201ctailored to the specific needs of the member associations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In revealing their revised budget for the period from 2015 to 2018, Fifa claim there is sufficient cash to implement the Fifa Forward Programme in spite of the well-documented financial issues they have faced over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will, alongside other 201 Fifa member associations, now be receiving K863,161,000 (U$S1.25 million) annually following the world football governing body\u2019s decision to increase the grant from K271, 600,000 (U$S400,000).
