Lion-hearted Limbani Masamba must rise to the occasion to become the first Malawian boxer to lift the African Boxing Union (ABU) super-middleweight belt on home soil.<\/p>\n
Limbani takes on Congolese boxer, Mbiya Nkanku, at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe tonight when Malawi hosts the ABU 12-round title fight for the first time.<\/p>\n
Limbani admitted that it would be a difficult task to beat Nkanku on second attempt having surrendered his unbeaten record to the Congolese in 2013.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet bygones be bygones. I have developed a lot since that time. I have also prepared intensively and I will not disappoint my followers,\u201d said the 26 year-old boxer, whose record in the professional ranks is 16 wins and five losses.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the fight, Limbani camped at Delta Force Boxing Academy in Harare, Zimbabwe, then relocated to South Africa to spar with top boxers.<\/p>\n
Nkanku, speaking through Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Manager Chris Malunga, warned that he was not in Malawi for sight-seeing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a different fight, but I will give him another proper beating. I am capable of repeating whatever I did to him. This time there is a belt which gives me motivation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Chilomoni Township pugilist has been accorded an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Chikoya Mphande and Isaac Chilemba.<\/p>\n
Chikoya won a similar belt in the late 1990s in Zambia after he defeated a Togolese opponent, whereas Chilemba humbled Ghanaian boxer, Charles Adamu, to clinch the ABU super-middleweight title in 2008 in South Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
