Renowned musician Ben Mankhamba has added his voice to calls against the albino killings by releasing a single.<\/p>\n
Mankhamba famed for the hit \u2018Kamba Anga Mwala,\u2019 recently posted on his Facebook page that he was shocked with the albino killings and that he had decided to compose a song.<\/p>\n
The singer and guitarist went on to ask for some lyrics from people to enrich the song.<\/p>\n
In the song, Mankhamba says people must stand up and fight the albino killings.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very sad that this is happening in our country and the people who are doing this have to stop forthwith because God created us in his image, whether you are black or white or an albino,\u201d said the musician, who is also Village Headman Chingalire.<\/p>\n
He said on Tuesday that the song which is ready will be distributed to radio stations so that it reaches all the corners.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have only managed to release a few copies for the radio stations but those who have the resources can help me reproduce it so that the message in the song goes to all the corners. We all have to stand up and fight these albino killings,\u201d said Mankhamba, who has represented the country in many international festivals.<\/p>\n
Mankhamba says in the song that people have turned brutal and inhuman killing albinos in search of money.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all have a right to life, why should albinos be living in fear? This is why as an artist I decided to add my voice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Several other artists have come out to work on songs against albino killings.<\/p>\n
Another artist, who has given out his voice on albino killings is James Kuchilala also known as Malala.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have worked on a music video which is ready,\u201d said the \u2018Nyumba Yangongolere,\u2019 creator.<\/p>\n
And in March a theatre group from Lilongwe also staged a play at Madsoc Theatre hitting at albino killers.<\/p>\n
During a Jamaican group Morgan Heritage concert held at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on April 30, 2016, several artists also voiced out their concern on albino killings saying albinos were human like everyone else.<\/p>\n
South Africa-based musician and promoter Born Afrikan also said his Born Afrikan Productions was against the albino killings.<\/p>\n
The Sunday Times <\/em>reported recently that just this year alone six albinos had been killed in Dedza, Phalombe, Dowa and Kasungu.<\/p>\n It further said that the killing of the six this year had pushed the number of those killed to 17 as 11 others were murdered in the past two years.<\/p>\n Association of Persons with Albinisim in Malawi (Apam) Executive Director Boniface Massa said recently that he was incensed that the vice was continuing.<\/p>\n He blamed the abductions and killings to superstition saying some witchdoctors are taking advantage of poor people\u2019s ignorance to create misconception that body parts of albinos are potent charms.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are all sorts of baseless misconceptions. They include the wrong belief that having sex with an albino will cure HIV and Aids. Some are hoodwinked into believing that our body parts can make one get rich quickly,\u201d Massa told The Sunday Times. <\/em><\/p>\n In the song Mankhamba says the albino killers have no mercy by killing innocent people and that they did not choose to be albinos.<\/p>\n He goes further to say that albinos also need life but \u201cyou are killing them\u201d denying them education and several other human needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Renowned musician Ben Mankhamba has added his voice to calls against the albino killings by releasing a single.
