{"id":23971,"date":"2016-05-09T13:47:20","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T11:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=23971"},"modified":"2016-05-09T13:47:20","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T11:47:20","slug":"minister-urges-investors-to-stick-to-government-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/09\/minister-urges-investors-to-stick-to-government-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister urges investors to stick to government policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Labour, Manpower and Youth Development, Henry Mussa, has urged foreign investors to abide by the country\u2019s development and labour policies in their operations for positive contributions to Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>Mussa was speaking on Thursday in Lilongwe during the staff award and third trainee cohort welcoming ceremony organised by Sogecoa Golden Peacock Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The trainee cohort started for China on 18 October, 2015 and came back on 16th April this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs government, we urge investors to follow local laws and regulations as well as the country\u2019s development strategy for more contributions to the country\u2019s progress,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mussa advised the employees to comply with the hotel policy since each institution has their own corporate culture and management mode, and welcomed the hotel management to seek technical advice from his ministry on labour dispute.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked the hotel for awarding the employees an opportunity to go for training in China despite economic hardships, where they are complementing government efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Wang Shi-Ting, commended the training project, describing it as a step further for friendship between China and Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>Wang also mentioned other contributions from Sogecoa Company Limited such as Parliament, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Bingu National Stadium and various social activities.<\/p>\n<p>T h e d i p l o m a t encouraged more Chinese enterprises to invest and engage in Malawi\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>One of the beneficiaries, Rose Ngalawango, thanked Sogecoa management for the opportunity and acknowledged that the trip was worth it since they acquired some skills which they believe they will be able to apply and impart to their colleagues when executing their duties in the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>She also encouraged her workmates to be committed to their work and also move with time since they are operating in a global world where change is now inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>S o g e c o a G o l d e n Peacock has been sending local staff to a five-star hotel in China for hospitality training for six-12 months.<\/p>\n<p>All the expenses of travelling and training are borne by hotel while trainees receive two salaries from China and Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>So far, 12 employees have benefited from this project.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel was opened in 2011, with 247 rooms and 10 conference rooms and provides more than 130 employment opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Labour, Manpower and Youth Development, Henry Mussa, has urged foreign investors to abide by the country\u2019s development and labour policies in their operations for positive contributions to Malawi.
