It is also not known if the fans are duly registered, and if indeed Bullets have such structures at the district level.

The meeting follows a statement made by NMC that they are willing to buyout the club if some formalities were fulfilled.

The supporters stated that time was ripe for Bullets to develop by having its own stadia and club house, among others, adding that this can only happen if Nyasa takes full control of the team.

Sifi Dawa Bamusi (Salima Committee spokesperson), Mike Katunga (Phalombe Vi c e – Chairperson), Ethel Moffat (Central Region Chairperson), Dennis Chibwana (Zomba Secretary) and Chimwemwe Kampachike spoke interchangeably on behalf of other supporters, stressing that Bullets should have a true identity by having owners.

“In my understanding, Bullets will remain a community team, but Nyasa Manufacturing Company will have full control of the team if they buyout majority of shares,” Bamusi said.

Moffat said Bullets had failed to construct its own infrastructure because most previous committee leaders were greedy.

“They wanted to reap from the team. It is pathetic that up to now, we don’t have our own facilities, and yet we are called giants in Malawi,” she said.

Katunga added that lack of ownership had also affected players’ welfare.

“Executive members were unable to source K2 million to enable Douglas Chirambo [now deceased] undergo treatment. If there was any owner then, we could have taken them to task to fund Chirambo’s treatment,” he said.

Chibwana and Kampachike claimed that it was not surprising that Football Association of Malawi (Fam) was enforcing Club Licensing Sytem to resolve several issues, including club ownership.

Bullets Supporters Committee Chairperson, Stone Mwamadi, said they would forward the fans’ input to the main committee and trustees.

“On our own we could not do anything and that is why we called them to discuss. They consulted supporters from their districts and they want Nyasa to buyout the team,” he said.

Bullets Vice-General Secretary, Kelvin Moyo, said he was aware of the development, but the committee was yet to meet to make its official stand.

One of NMC Directors, Dimitri Kalaitzis, stated that they need an official letter from the board of trustees with an official buyout request.

“Pending that we are still currently sponsors of this great team,” he said.

However, former Bullets chairperson, Kondie Msungama, said there was no need to rush the exercise because it needs thorough consultation.

“We need to follow the right procedures. Are the people representing all supporters across the nation? There is no need to rush the exercise because Nyasa already signed an MoU that they will sponsor Bullets for the next five years,” he said.

Recently, NMC Chairperson, Konrad Buckle, said when buying out the club, they can come up with a deliberate policy and clause to ensure that the company sales back 50 percent of the shares to the community.

A grouping of 35 people, claiming to be Nyasa Big Bullets supporters from several district committees, has backed the idea to have sponsor, Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC), buyout the club to resolve ownership issues.
