Legendary musician Paul Banda\u2019s journey has taken him where he is today but the memories remain.<\/p>\n
The singer and guitarist, who has produced several albums will tonight take to the stage at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe to launch his first ever DVD The Best of Sir Paul Banda<\/em>.<\/p>\n Paul said yesterday that he was ready for the showdown and that he was looking forward to nothing but the best.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are ready, we have had massive rehearsals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He then revealed that during the launch, people will sample a new song from his forth coming album Blessed Are You titled \u2018Dalitsani Ana Anu.\u2019<\/p>\n During the launch Paul will also come face to face with his brother Lucius.<\/p>\n \u201cI am grateful that my brother Lucius will be part of this historical show. It always feels great for me performing side by side with my brother,\u201d said the singer.<\/p>\n Lucius also said he was happy to share the stage with his brother.<\/p>\n \u201cI am glad my brother is launching a DVD and this is why I did not hesitate to be part of this event. It even feels great to share the stage with him once again,\u201d said Lucius, popularly known as Soldier in the music circles.<\/p>\n The DVD was produced by Anthu Ambiri Records led by Zachariah Jezzman and has 10 songs from The Best of Paul Banda album.<\/p>\n Some of the songs in the DVD are \u2018Malilime,\u2019 \u2018M\u2019busa Wabwino,\u2019 and \u2018Achimwene Muzigona Kunyumba.\u2019<\/p>\n Jezzman called on people to come in large numbers and be part of the launch.<\/p>\n \u201cPaul has done a lot in terms of uplifting the music industry in the country and this is his first ever DVD so people need to patronise the launch as part of supporting him and appreciating his talent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Jezzman said they have produced 20,000 copies to be on the market this month.<\/p>\n From Lilongwe, the DVD launch will go to Balaka on June 4 before going to Blantyre on June 5, 2016.<\/p>\n He said they decided to work on the Best of Paul Banda for people to sample his music videos in this world of technology.<\/p>\n \u201cPaul Banda is one of the music legends in Malawi having embarked on the music journey at a very tender age of 15. The story of how he started his music journey is amazing and that is why we embarked on the DVD project,\u201d said Jezzman.<\/p>\n He said that he used to be known as Che Beni as a young boy, a name he extended to Benson.<\/p>\n The singer and guitarist, who insisted that he never wanted to do a DVD until he was convinced to do so by Jezzman, started his music journey in 1974 when his mother sent him to buy salt at a grocery where, for the very first time, he saw musician, late Joseph Nangalembe.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was physically challenged but he was impressed with the way he was playing a guitar at a party, a thing he could only hear on the radio from a neighbour\u2019s house,\u201d said Jezzman.<\/p>\n According to him, Paul recalls that he forgot to buy salt since he could not let the live sound of the guitar exit his ears.<\/p>\n This prompted his mother to follow him because she was not sure what Che Beni was doing at the grocery.<\/p>\n \u201cJoseph Nangalembe left a mark in me,\u201d said Paul.<\/p>\n When Paul went home, he made his own banjo using local materials and that marked the beginning of his music journey.<\/p>\n Four years later, in 1978, Paul started Alleluya Band together with Father Mario, the band that continues to entertain Malawians and supporting the operations of Andiamo Campus financially.<\/p>\n He later went on establish a recording studio known as Imbirani Yahweh which produced albums for different musicians.<\/p>\n The singer, who turned 50 two years ago which coincided with Malawi\u2019s Golden Jubilee celebrations, was bestowed the title of Sir by renowned music promoter Jai Banda alias Mr Entertainer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Legendary musician Paul Banda\u2019s journey has taken him where he is today but the memories remain.
