{"id":23660,"date":"2016-05-04T10:42:47","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T08:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=23660"},"modified":"2016-05-04T10:42:47","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T08:42:47","slug":"freshlyground-to-perform-at-lake-of-stars-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/04\/freshlyground-to-perform-at-lake-of-stars-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Freshlyground to perform at Lake of Stars again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s renowned group Freshlyground returns to Lake of Stars Malawi Arts Festival as they have been announced as the first international headliner by the organisers.<\/p>\n<p>The group first performed at the Lake of Stars Festival in 2011 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.<\/p>\n<p>The Lake of Stars Festival will this year return to Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay taking place on September 30 to October 2, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This is the place where the festival started in 2004 before it moved to Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima and later Sunbird Nkopola.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers posted the information on their Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>And in a press release yesterday, Lake of Stars Festival organisers said Freshlyground has been at the forefront of the music scene in the Southern African region with chart-topping tracks like \u2018Waka Waka\u2019, \u2018Doo Be Doo\u2019, and \u2018Pot Belly.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>And they have followed that with recent hits \u2018Don\u2019t Leave Me\u2019 and \u2018Army of One\u2019 with Jack Parow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach year we receive requests to bring previous performers back to the festival and so people requested for Freshlyground as people have enjoyed seeing them perform so much, \u201csaid Lake of Stars Director Will Jameson.<\/p>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most frequent requests over the past five years has been Freshlyground. We\u2019re delighted to be bringing this world-class act back to Malawi for more of their exciting music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said that everyone knows and loves \u2018Waka Waka\u2019 the official 2010 Fifa World Cup song with Shakira and that they were excited with Freshlyground\u2019s recent and upcoming releases which he said have a fresh new sound.<\/p>\n<p>The other artists who are set to be part of this year\u2019s festival are Faith Mussa, hip hop MC Flo Dee, Bucci who join a lineup that was released earlier and it has Patience Namadingo, Piksy, and Lusubilo Band.<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said in addition to the musical programme, festival-goers will enjoy a host of other entertainment from across the arts including poetry, theatre, fashion, and dance.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the organisers have also announced that the early bird tickets for Lake of Stars are now on sale in Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Nkhata Bay.<\/p>\n<p>The early bird tickets for the three day festival are selling at K24,000 runs until the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers have also said applications have recently opened for vendors and for those interested in performing or volunteering at this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s renowned group Freshlyground returns to Lake of Stars Malawi Arts Festival as they have been announced as the first international headliner by the organisers.
