We are looking at three competitive reasons for our continued support. We are looking at commercial reasons and also social enhancement of Malawi as well as football reasons,” Chirwa said in his speech.

“The footballing reasons standout as being very pertinent to football development in Malawi, but also in recruiting talent to the national team. It also gives teams the platforms to perform.”

Chirwa said they decided to extend the partnership by a year because it was easy to evaluate the developments that have happened within a particular period.

He also said that this year’s champions will pocket K12 million, up from K10 million.

Fam Executive Committee Member, Daud Mtanthiko, speaking on behalf of Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, said they were excited with the development as some companies were either shunning sponsoring football or literally walking away from the sport.

“We are happy that Carlsberg has come back to sponsor the cup and that they have decided to increase the sponsorship by 33 percent.
