Malawi netball superstar, Mwawi Kumwenda, was in her true elements on Monday when inspiring her New Zealand side, Mainland Tactix, to a first win of the 2016 trans-Tasman ANZ Championship.<\/p>\n
The league\u2019s website reports that a screaming \u201csea of red\u201d helped carry Tactix to a pulsating 56-55 victory over the SKYCITY Mystics at Christchurch.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a win by a small margin, but that is all we needed for the victory. We are stronger together,\u201d said the newly-crowned International World Games Association Athlete of-the Year 2015.<\/p>\n
Tactix had urged their fans to wear the club\u2019s traditional red colours during the game as both sides were desperate to secure their first victory for 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cUp 15-10 going into the second spell, the Mystics grew in strength to be seven goals up. Tuivaiti became another casualty, leaving the court to get her hand strapped, and Megan Craig came on. Again the Mystics used the new replacement rule wisely, and Tuivaiti returned to the game just before halftime,\u201d the website reports.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut in her absence, the Tactix had reinforced their attack. [Bailey] Mes and Kumwenda displaying textbook communication, and the Tactix won the quarter by one. But still they trailed by four, 27-23, at halftime.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMes and Kumwenda continued to have the crowd spellbound with their understanding, and brilliantly fed by Erikana Pedersen, the Tactix drew level 41-41 right on the third quarter final whistle,\u201d the report concluded.<\/p>\n
Kumwenda is now the second best shooter in the league this season with 91.5 percent scoring accuracy after converting 130 out of 142 attempts.<\/p>\n
Caitlin Bassett of West Coast Fever leads with 93 percent conversion rate earned from 160 goals from 172 attempts.<\/p>\n
