Malawi national football team defender, Harry Nyirenda, has declined a contract renewal with Black Leopards, saying he was looking for fresh challenges away from the South African First Division side.<\/p>\n
The Leopards Captain confirmed in an interview from South Africa that he would not extend his three-year deal ending in June.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will come back home in June and wait until October to weigh the options on my table. I will be training on my own until October. I am looking for fresh challenges,\u201d the Flames defender said.<\/p>\n
He dismissed fears that being inactive for four months might undermine his form for club and country. He is free to talk to other teams since he is into the last six months of his contract with Leopards.<\/p>\n
The former Be Forward Wanderers captain is expected to be involved in the Flames\u2019 remaining qualifying games for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations against Zimbabwe in June and Swaziland in September.<\/p>\n
Malawi is also expected to participate in 2016 Cosafa Cup in Namibia in June.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will see if I can sign for a club in Malawi and play for four months. I do not want to make a long-term commitment that would affect the opportunities I am waiting for,\u201d Nyirenda insisted.<\/p>\n
Earlier reports in South Africa suggested that Free State Stars were eyeing the defender, who is a good reader of the game and is capable of launching play from the back.<\/p>\n
Leopards\u2019 publicist, Barry Rumenya, said the Limpopo team was not keen on engaging in transfer talk as they are pre-occupied with First Division promotion battle.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t gone to that point as we have a new coach. It means that the coach and the technical committee will advise management on the players for next season,\u201d Rumenya explained.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda courted trouble with Leopards a few months ago when he reported from the Flames camp, a month before a trip to Guinea, forcing the South African team to recall him. Leopards eventually released him back to the Flames.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
