Four regional champions face tricky assignments to qualify and maintain their slots at the national level of Airtel Money national netball trophy.<\/p>\n
The two-day regional finals throw-off Saturday in four zones with 72 teams fighting for four national level slots.<\/p>\n
In the Southern Region, two-time defending champions, Alliance Capital Stars, have to prove their prowess to retain the championship ahead of well-oiled teams such as Blantyre Stars, Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters, Chilomoni Sisters and Shizaella.<\/p>\n
Alliance Assistant Coach, Garvey Nyondo, said the coming in of Coach, Mary Waya, has inspired the team and they were determined to reach the national phase.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have learnt a lot since Waya joined us. We believe that we will go all the way to defend the title at the regional finals and impress at the national finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the Eastern Region, holders, Prison Sisters, have also vowed to qualify for the national finals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know every team is prepared for the battle. However, we are also breathing fire and we will take them head on,\u201d said the team\u2019s coach, Pemphero Ntalika.<\/p>\n
In the Central Region, Green Eagles are the regional defending champions while Young Sisters are also itching to retain the Northern Region championship.<\/p>\n
Kumudzi Lodge hosts the Central Region finals while Katoto Secondary is the venue for the Northern Region finals.<\/p>\n
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said they were hoping for mouth-watering games.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had hundreds of teams and we have narrowed them to 72 at the regional level,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bapu said increasing the prize money from K1 million to K1.2 million for the winners will further inspire the participating teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
