So I used to take time to dress up, it was a big problem because I always wanted the best,” he said.

Carter said fashion defines him and that it was important for him to come up with a fashion week.

He said the event is following up on the fashion show they held at Catholic University in Chiradzulu.

“This was a promise I made at this function that I was going to hold another big fashion event where I would bring both local and international designers. We have designers like David Tlale coming,” said Carter.

He said that Malawi has very good fabric with talented designers but that many lack international exposure.

Carter said through the fashion week, he also wants to promote the country’s models as an agent of fashion.

“We also through this fashion week want to promote tourism as these international designers will be coming to Malawi, they will see the beauty of Malawi. We are working hard and we expect to have close to 12 designers,” he said.

Some of the designers set to participate at the fashion week are Christian Entwan from Blantyre, Lauretta from Mzuzu and Sadia Mustafa and Miizu, both who have attended the African Fashion Week in London.

“There is so much to show and all we are saying is we need support from the corporate world so that this event becomes a success,” said Carter.

With fashion designers in the country still seeking more platforms both in and outside the country to showcase their designs, a Lilongwe International Fashion Week has come up.
