We have planned Chill DJs battle as a national competition where DJs representing the north, centre and south would compete over the next three months,” said Chirwa.

He said two of the best DJs will compete in the grand finale to be held in July, 2016.

Last year the winner went away with a brand new Kia Picanto but this year according to Chirwa, the winner will walk away with brand new disco equipment which he said the DJ can use to further develop the skills.

The past competitions have seen female DJs shying away with male DJs dominating and it remains to be seen if females will come up this time around.

The runner up will pocket K1 million.

“The Chill DJs competition is a platform for Malawian DJs, who promote our brands every day in beer selling outlets to showcase their skills and benefit from the prizes on offer to further their talent and business,” said Chirwa.

He further added that the competition is a platform for their consumers to interact with the Chill brand when they win assorted branded merchandise during the promotion.

“We will be running a promotion at each Chill DJs competition whereby consumers who buy four Chill bottles will get an instant prize and again we always tell our consumers to enjoy responsibly,” he said.

The first round of the competition starts in the south tonight at Mustang Sally in Blantyre.

“We call upon DJs to register and participate and registration is open until Friday (today),” said Chirwa.

He said they were happy with the way the competition has progressed since they started in 2013 observing that the platform has helped promote local DJs.

However, some quarters, while commending Carlsberg Malawi for promoting the art of disc jockeying through the competition, have for the past years criticised the organisers for failing to use a proper criteria in selecting the winners.

Last year’s winner was DJ Doug Fresh from Blantyre.
