{"id":2247,"date":"2015-05-12T08:32:56","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T08:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=2247"},"modified":"2015-05-12T08:32:56","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T08:32:56","slug":"junior-tennis-squad-wins-two-medals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/05\/12\/junior-tennis-squad-wins-two-medals\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior tennis squad wins two medals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi national junior tennis squad has won two medals at the first edition of the ITF\/CAT Southern Africa junior circuit in Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s under-12 star Ramesh Banda won bronze medal in singles category and he partnered with a player from Mauritius to win silver medal in doubles event.<\/p>\n<p>In a third-place match, Ramesh beat Lucas of Mauritius 6-1,6-2. In doubles Ramesh and Lucas lost to a pair that consisted of a player from Botswana and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>In girls section, Mwai Kadammanja and Linda Msiska los t in the semifinals of the under-14 doubles event 0-6 1-6. They lost to a team that had players from South Africa and Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) executive member, Tadala Kandulu, said they were hoping for more medals during the second edition of the circuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, we could have done better, but two medals it\u2019s not bad either. We hope the team will work hard during the second tournament,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) donated K1.7 million to Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) to help Ramesh prepare for the forthcoming ITF\/CAT Masters tournament set for Morocco in September.<\/p>\n<p>PIL general manager, Enwell Kadango, said the donation was meant to help Ramesh and his coach travel for ITF junior circuits set for Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>Other players in the six-member squad include; Linda Msiska, Dereck Gamula, Gloria Christopher, Mwaiwathu Kadammanja and Anderson Kachepa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi national junior tennis squad has won two medals at the first edition of the ITF\/CAT Southern Africa junior circuit in Botswana.
