Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has to dig deeper into its pocket this season if it wants quality referees to handle TNM Super League games for 2016 season.<\/p>\n
This follows Referees Association of Malawi\u2019s (Ram) proposal to Sulom for an increment from K20,000 to K100,000 per game for a set of referees [three].<\/p>\n
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, and Ram General Secretary, Chris Kalichero, confirmed the development, but they were reluctant to comment further.<\/p>\n
Banda, speaking on Tuesday, said Sulom was expected to hold talks with the referees on their proposal before the season starts.<\/p>\n
He said it would be difficult to meet the referees\u2019 demand as the league has a limited budget that would further be stretched by the increase of teams from 15 to 16 in the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have submitted a proposal asking us to consider other issues before we start the new season. They indicated that the K20,000 we give them, after every game, was not enough. As Sulom, we need to meet because it means spending over K48 million for them, yet the sponsorship from TNM is K90 million,\u201d Banda said.<\/p>\n
However, Kalichero, said they were waiting for discussions with Sulom.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not like we are demanding such an amount of money you are talking about. Who has told you that we have written Sulom on that? I think that is an anonymous letter, but yes we will meet Sulom to map the way forward. The issue regarding increment will be tabled during the meeting,\u201d Kalichero insisted.<\/p>\n
The new season is expected to start on 16th of April, and Sulom has drafted 2016 fixtures while waiting for Lilongwe High Court\u2019s ruling on Dedza Young Soccer versus Sulom\u2019s case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
