{"id":21721,"date":"2016-03-31T12:44:39","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T10:44:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=21721"},"modified":"2016-03-31T12:44:39","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T10:44:39","slug":"bafta-tv-nods-to-rylance-and-elba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/03\/31\/bafta-tv-nods-to-rylance-and-elba\/","title":{"rendered":"Bafta TV nods to Rylance and Elba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oscar-winner Mark Rylance is facing competition from Luther star Idris Elba in the bid to be named best leading actor at this year\u2019s Bafta TV awards.<\/p>\n<p>The pair are nominated alongside Ben Whishaw and Stephen Graham, cited for <em>London Spy <\/em>and <em>This is England \u201890. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sheridan Smith is in the running for the leading actress award, for her role as a woman with cancer in The C-Word.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wolf Hall, <\/em>based on the novel by Hilary Mantel, picked up four nominations for the awards, to be held on May 8.<\/p>\n<p>The historical drama is nominated in the best drama series category, alongside <em>Humans<\/em>, <em>The Last Panthers <\/em>and <em>No Offence. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>It has also received nominations for Claire Foy\u2019s performance as Anne Boleyn and Anton Lesser\u2019s supporting performance as Sir Thomas More.<\/p>\n<p>Foy and Smith are joined in the leading actress category by Suranne Jones and Ruth Madeley, who are nominated for BBC One\u2019s <em>Doctor Foster <\/em>and BBC Three\u2019s <em>Don\u2019t Take My Baby <\/em>respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Rylance, who won an Oscar last month for his supporting role in <em>Bridge of Spies<\/em>, is nominated for his role as Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII\u2019s right hand man.<\/p>\n<p>Doctor Foster, London Spy and <em>This is England \u201890 <\/em>are minated in the best mini-series category, as is Sky production The Enfield Haunting.<\/p>\n<p>The C-Word is up for the single drama prize, alongside BBC One\u2019s The Go-Between, Don\u2019t Take My Baby and Channel 4\u2019s Cyberbully.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon Horgan is up for the best female performance in a comedy programme award, for Channel 4\u2019s Catastrophe.<\/p>\n<p>So are Sian Gibson, for Peter Kay\u2019s <em>Car Share<\/em>, Miranda Hart for <em>Miranda<\/em>, and Michaela Coel for E4\u2019s <em>Chewing Gum<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Hugh Bonneville receives a nomination for best male performance in a comedy programme, for spoof BBC documentary W1A.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Kay is nominated in the same category for <em>Car Share, <\/em>alongside Javone Prince, for <em>The Javone Prince Show<\/em>, and <em>Detectorists<\/em>\u2019 Toby Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Gomez gets a supporting actress nomination for Doctor Who, while Adele\u2019s BBC music special gets a nod in the entertainment programme category.<\/p>\n<p>The programme, which saw Adele sing and take part in sketches as well as be quizzed by Graham Norton, is up against Britain\u2019s Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and TFI Friday\u2019s 20th anniversary special.<\/p>\n<p>Lesser\u2019s competition in the supporting actor category includes Sir Tom Courtenay and Sir Ian McKellen, who are nominated for <em>Unforgotten <\/em>and <em>The Dresser <\/em>respectively.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time Sir Ian, a two-time Oscar nominee and recipient of four Bafta film award nominations, has been nominated for a Bafta TV award.<\/p>\n<p>His role in <em>The Dresser <\/em>was the same one for which Sir Tom Courtenay was nominated for a Bafta film award in 1985.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Great British Bake Off <\/em>received its fifth consecutive nomination in the features category, an award it won in 2012 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC ratings winner is also up for the Radio Times audience award,announced on Tuesday, a prize to be decided by public vote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oscar-winner Mark Rylance is facing competition from Luther star Idris Elba in the bid to be named best leading actor at this year\u2019s Bafta TV awards.
