{"id":21711,"date":"2016-03-30T14:32:35","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T12:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=21711"},"modified":"2016-03-30T14:32:35","modified_gmt":"2016-03-30T12:32:35","slug":"malawi-car-market-smallest-worldwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/03\/30\/malawi-car-market-smallest-worldwide\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi car market smallest worldwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New vehicles sales in Malawi were recorded at 1,663 units in 2015 making the country the smallest market for vehicles in the world, according to a recent research report by an international vehicle sales website Focus2Move.<\/p>\n<p>The report released this week, however, shows that new vehicle sales in Malawi increased by 4.8 percent in 2015 and that Malawi is dominated by pick-ups, and Toyota is leader handling over the half of total market.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting data from Malawi\u2019s Association of Car Importers, Focus2Move says in 2015 Toyota sold 862 vehicles or 51.8 percent of total market followed by Ford, thanks to the pick-up Ranger, with 227 sales while the third was Nissan, with 166 units.<\/p>\n<p>Stansfield Motors Malawi general manager, Michael Khomani recently estimated Malawi\u2019s truck vehicle market at about 100 or 150 units a year but said there was great potential in the country, especially with projected medium term growth in telecommunications, sugar and agriculture as well as the petroleum industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we know that with the hardships in our economy, some customers have resorted to buying used trucks,\u201d said Khomani.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s car market is dominated by second-hand imported vehicles according to recent data from the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) indicating that about 3,000 used cars enter the country annually.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New vehicles sales in Malawi were recorded at 1,663 units in 2015 making the country the smallest market for vehicles in the world, according to a recent research report by an international vehicle sales website Focus2Move.
