Police in Mzuzu have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with the violence in Mzuzu on Sunday where Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera held a solidarity rally with some leaders of opposition People\u2019s Party (PP) and Alliance for Democracy (Aford).<\/p>\n
The rally which took place at Chibavi primary school ground in Mzuzu was interrupted by some men who came with pangas demanding that anyone in PP\u2019s colours should leave.<\/p>\n
This led to a fracas and some participants including one of Chakwera\u2019s bodyguards were injured.<\/p>\n
Early this week, the police arrested four suspects identified as Francis Kasyololo 30, George Mwamtobe 38, Lumbani Munthali 29 and Clive Nthakomwa 52.<\/p>\n
Regional police spokesperson Maurice Chapola told The Daily Times <\/em>yesterday that the police in Mzuzu have arrested one more suspect.<\/p>\n \u201cWe can confirm that we have another suspect in our custody. His name is Thembisire Nkosi aged 32 from Nkosi Village Traditional Authority Nthwalo in Mzimba District,\u201d said Chapola.<\/p>\n The suspects will be charged with proposing violence which is contrary to section 86 of the penal code.
