Football Association of Malawi (Fam) says it will facilitate the formation of supporters committees in all the regions to coordinate support for the country\u2019s national football sides.<\/p>\n
Speaking in reaction to the emergence of a self-styled new supporters committee for the Flames, Fam general secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, said it was important to formalise structures for organised national team support.<\/p>\n
Over the past few weeks, a group led by vocal Nyasa Big Bullets supporter, Billy Severe, popularly known as Billy One, has been claiming to have replaced Yona Malunga-led committee.<\/p>\n
The group claimed that Yona was personalising the committee\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda said Billy One and his group approached Fam on mobilising support for the Flames and the association saw no reason to stop them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all Malawians and it is our duty to support the Flames in every way we can. We would like to have Flames supporters committees in all regions, so that support for our team is well-coordinated,\u201d Nyirenda explained.<\/p>\n
The general secretary noted that the absence of proper guidelines for establishing the supporters committee resulted in office holders ascending to their positions without elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople cannot just be waking up to claim positions without holding any elections,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The need for supporters committee comes in the wake of Flames engagements in qualifiers for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n
Malawi play in Guinea on Friday before hosting the West Africans on Tuesday at Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n
