Southern Region Grassroots Football has taken shape, leading to the selection of 20 youngsters earmarked for further training.<\/p>\n
The region\u2019s coordinator, Victor Malabwanya, said they were delighted with a day-long talent identification exercise held at Naizi Primary in Bangwe Township, Blantyre on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe conducted grassroots football festival and tournaments with about 200 boys and girls aged six and 12 here at Naizi Primary School, Bangwe Zone. The young ones enjoyed themselves. We had many parents who graced the occasion, and they also offered their support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Malabwanya said the parents were eager to work with the committee to hone youngsters\u2019 skills as well as mentor them into good citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis demonstrates that the Bangwe Zone would like to work hand-in-hand with Football Association of Malawi (Fam) in developing football in Malawi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Malabwanya said the selected 20 youngsters would be called for special training as part of their development.<\/p>\n
World football governing body, Fifa, through Fam, supported the exercise by providing equipment, including balls.<\/p>\n
The players were drawn from some primary schools in the zone, including Bangwe CCAP, Chimaliro, Namatapa, Bangwe Catholic, Naizi and Chisombezi.<\/p>\n
At the end of the exercise the following players were selected: Grace Matiya, Alinafe Jeremia,11, Faida Chadewa,11, Lonjezo Zimbiri,12, Joyce Chitete,9, Moreen Solobala, 11 , Kiloteti Mpunga,12,(Girls). Miliasi Mulindi, 12, Aubrey Byson, Kelvin Chaima, 11, Ali Sapangwa, 10, Alex Mtanga, Victor Bakali, Blessings Chingwalu, Innocent Mbewe, Kingsley Chinyama, Jimmy Henry and Jerry Maganizo, 11, and Jolly Monyadira,11,(Boys).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
