Gospel musician Sangwani Munthali on Saturday night performed at Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre during a media networking event.<\/p>\n
The singer famed for the hit \u2018Mwahomwa Yafumu,\u2019 which saw people likening him to Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire performed close to five songs which impressed the gathering.<\/p>\n
He showed he has potential throughout his performance and that his songs are rich in both sound and lyrical content.<\/p>\n
Doing what he describes as advanced afro contemporary music, the musician has all what it takes to conquer the international platform.<\/p>\n
However, he needs to put in more effort to convince Malawians to love his set of music which has to some extent been given a cold shoulder.<\/p>\n
Featuring talented instrumentalists among them Mafilika lead vocalist Ernest Ikwanga, drummer Amos Mlolowa, percussionist Daniel Thom alias Super DT, keyboardist Gresham Mokwena and the brass section of three Lusubilo Band members, Sangwani produced powerful sound that had the audience dancing along.<\/p>\n
Singer and guitarist Goma Nyondo as well as backing vocalist Allan Jogi also performed with Sangwani.<\/p>\n
The artist has finalised his third album Ndipulumutseni <\/em>which he recorded in Namibia with the finest hands of Zimbabwean and Namibian professionals.<\/p>\n \u201cI am excited to perform in front of the media just to give them a sample of my new songs ahead of my launch. I know I have been out for long but I am ready to pull the plug,\u201d said the soft-spoken singer.<\/p>\n He also dedicated one of his songs to female gospel singer late Grace Chinga who died on Wednesday and was buried on Saturday at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre.<\/p>\n Sangwani will officially launch the 13-track album alongside the DVD of his second album Themba <\/em>at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on May 27 before going to Robins Park in Blantyre on May 28 and finally Boma Park in Mzuzu on 4 June.<\/p>\n The musician has since released six promotion singles including \u2018Ndingaopa Ntchiche,\u2019 \u2018Ndilowala,\u2019 \u2018Asamala,\u2019 and \u2018Ufumu.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI really took time on this project and it has been a lot of work. It\u2019s a powerful album, from the message and artistically, it will change lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Sangwani, who still has a lot of homework to do on his stage management said the latest album carries the message of hope to those who are in predicament and that it is wholly inspired by the word of God.<\/p>\n The musician in keeping with the trends has also created a website www. sangwanimunthali.com which has been developed to take advantage of technology to market his music outside Malawi.<\/p>\n The musician\u2019s sponsor, Vitumbiko Mumba, who is based in Namibia described Sangwani as talented.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is paramount that Malawian artists such as Sangwani break into the international stage. Some have already done that, but there is need to have more. With the website it becomes easy to market Sangwani to international events organisers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Sangwani left the country last year for Namibia to record his third album having been out of the scene for some time.<\/p>\n The musician admitted that he has been out of the limelight for sometime but said the long break was worth it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been sometime since I held live performances but sometimes it\u2019s good to take your time.
