Football Players Association of Malawi (FPAM) has named former Be Forward Wanderers general secretary, Chipiliro Mpinganjira, as its patron.<\/p>\n
The body\u2019s chairperson, Ojukwu Malunga, said they took Mpinganjira on board to give the association a prominent face.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is a well-known figure in football circles, and we are looking forward to working with him. We feel he will give us advice and offer direction. Now that we have him, we feel we will forge ahead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mpinganjira said he was humbled by the appointment, and offered to energise the association.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that I am the patron, stakeholders should expect a bit more energy, a bit more push to the activities that are already there. The good thing is that the association already has plans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mpinganjira said FPAM was happy with the direction domestic football has taken following the introduction of Club Licensing System as championed by Football Association of Malawi (Fam).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has some core values such as the introduction of welfare fund. This is where we feel we will come handy to make things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mpinganjira called on local teams to embrace Club Licensing to protect players\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cClubs should surely implement this to improve players\u2019 welfare. We feel that there should be a minimum wage and insurance cover for players. We want to start now so that when players retire, they should have something to fall back on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
