President Peter Mutharika will on Friday this week preside over the launch of the Buy Malawi Strategy (BMS) aimed at promoting consumption of locally produced goods and services through direct interventions.<\/p>\n
The launching ceremony will take place at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Cliff Chiunda, said in a statement on Monday that the Buy Malawi Strategy will also have a component for expansion of production and industrialisation facilitation.<\/p>\n
He said the Buy Malawi Strategy compliments government\u2019s mission to promote industry, trade and private sector development for sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe spirit behind the Buy Malawi Strategy is to encourage consumption of locally produced goods and services through deliberate interventions. Consequently, it is expected that such conduct will substantially enhance competitiveness of local firms through stimulation of local production and growth,\u201d said Chiunda.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis, it is envisaged, will be achieved by mobilising the Malawian citizenry to embrace locally produced goods and services and building capacity in the competitiveness of enterprises by securing domestic demand for local firms\u2019 outputs and promoting industrialization,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Buy Malawi Strategy is being supported by the Malawi government with financial and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the private sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
