Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) has, with tight strings attached, reaffirmed its continued K500 million sponsorship to Big Bullets for the next five years.<\/p>\n
One of the strings attached is that Bullets chairperson, Sammy Chilunga, should continue running the show, and that the disputed finance committee should still take charge of players\u2019 welfare, among others.<\/p>\n
A communique from The People\u2019s Team\u2019s board of trustees yesterday listed down the conditions following a make-or-break stakeholders meeting with the Bullets family on Monday in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sponsor clearly indicated that they have trust in him [Chilunga] due to his credentials, leadership skills and his welfare stance for [sic] the players, who are the key stakeholders of the team,\u201d reads the statement, which the trustees\u2019 general secretary, Jim Kalua, signed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe chairman of the team\u2014Mr Sammy Chilunga\u2014has commited to continue as chairman for the goodness of the team. All people [who are] not ready to embrace the modern way of running the team as a business entity must resign or be sacked.\u201d<\/p>\n
The meeting follows the in-fighting in the Bullets executive committee.<\/p>\n
Chilunga and vice-general secretary, Kelvin Moyo, had withdrawn their services to Bullets after a fall-out with faction comprising treasurer, Noel Lipipa, vice-treasurer, Alex Gondwe, general secretary, Titha Mandiza and vice-chairperson, Sadiki Malinga.<\/p>\n
The other faction had issues with the finance committee which Chilunga formed, saying it was making decisions unilaterally.<\/p>\n
However, the trustees have resolved that \u201cthe finance committee, as established in the constitution and agreed upon by the sponsor, will continue to operate. Clear Terms of Reference shall be provided and all other committees will function with Terms of Reference for the smooth running of the club,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
