TNM on Friday unveiled winners of different categories in its Smart Challenge competition which started in October last year.<\/p>\n
The function took place in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Three young people from Lilongwe, Daniel Mvalo, Walter Moyo and Thandie Magasa \u2013 who developed a health-service application called aMartenitech, won the Smart Students category.<\/p>\n
They have since earned a trip to Silicon Valley in the United States of America and went away with Samsung Edge smart phones.<\/p>\n
In the Smart Kid category Panache Jere \u2013 who developed \u2018Talk to Me\u2019 application, emerged the winner and will also travel to Silicon Valley in addition to an Apple smartphone he won.<\/p>\n
Mvalo, Moyo, Magasa and Jere are expected to tour Facebook, Google, Apple and Stanford University in the US.<\/p>\n
Smart Community winners, Daily Box, have received computers for setting up a laboratory.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the ceremony, TNM chief executive officer, Douglas Stevenson, described the competition as successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our hope that this competition become the trendsetter for innovations among the youth in the country as demonstrated by the innovative and brilliant applications that we received from the participants,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Ministry of Information principal secretary, Justin Saidi, commended TNM for coming up with the initiative which, he said, provided aplatform for young Malawians to realise their potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf properly harnessed, ICT products and services could become an alternative source of economic growth and job creation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Launched on October 5, 2015 the TNM Smart Challenge provided students, pupils and their communities a platform to showcase innovations in mobile application development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
