Malawi\u2019s star midfielder, Robert Ng\u2019ambi, is reportedly close to extending his contract with South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Platinum Stars.<\/p>\n
Stars coach, Cavin Johnson, told South Africa\u2019s Kick- Off magazine that he expected the Malawian to stay beyond his current one-year contract which expires in June.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I like about Robert is that we are up-front with each other, and whether he wants to go or doesn\u2019t want to go, it doesn\u2019t matter. It is football and these things happen,\u201d Johnson is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know he is going to sign a new contract and we have agreed on that. And if things change in football, you guys [the media] will be the first to know.<\/p>\n
Robert is a unique case for Platinum Stars and there have been a lot of people after him for long time now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder was last season linked with moves to SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, but Stars exercised their first option for an extension of the deal.<\/p>\n
Ng\u2019ambi\u2019s South African manager, Tim Sukazi, in a telephone interview from Johannesburg on Tuesday, insisted that the player was keeping his options open.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a done deal yet. He has agreed in principle, but he hasn\u2019t signed a contract. There shall always be interest in Robert from other teams. When Stars present an offer, we will then decide,\u201d Sukazi said.<\/p>\n
Ng\u2019ambi, who won the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup with Stars in 2014, is the leading Malawian scorer in the PSL with four goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
