At least 800 schools have confirmed their participation in this year\u2019s Airtel Rising Stars football tournament, Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) has announced.<\/p>\n
Massa general secretary, Blackson Malamula, disclosed on Wednesday that the tournament is set to start this weekend across the country.<\/p>\n
However, the tournament will be officially launched at a date and venue yet to be announced.<\/p>\n
The tournament will firstly played at zone level before district, regional and national finals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are set to start the tournament this weekend. Registration closed last week and we are very happy because a lot of schools have confirmed to take part in this year\u2019s tournament,\u201d said Malamula.<\/p>\n
Malamula also urged all the schools to exercise fair play during the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are urging all the teams participating in this year\u2019s competition to observe fair play and discipline. As Massa, our aim is to develop sports, so we don\u2019t condone violence and hooliganism,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Airtel Rising Stars is a grassroots football talent search programme aimed at identifying and nurturing budding soccer talent from grassroots onto a national stage.<\/p>\n
For the second consecutive year, the tournament will not be held at international level due to Ebola concerns in Africa.<\/p>\n
Malawi was to be represented by two national select teams in the boys and girls category during last year\u2019s event in Gabon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
