Malawi promising women\u2019s referee, Mercy Mziya, has been handed her first international assignment to officiate a women\u2019s football match between Botswana and Mauritius this Sunday in Gaborone.<\/p>\n
She will travel to Botswana alongside Malawi\u2019s top women\u2019s referee, Bernadetter Kwimbira and Charity Ndovi.<\/p>\n
Kwimbira has been named as the first assistant referee, whereas Ndovi will be a second assistant.<\/p>\n
The officiating panel includes, Mathabo Maria Kolokoane from Lesotho and Dudu Emmah Dube from Swaziland, who have been named as reserve referee and match commissioner respectively.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) referees development officer, Maxwel Mtonga was not available for a comment on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
National Referees Committee (NRC) general secretary, Chris Kalichero, said Malawi has made great progress in refereeing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud as nation that most of our referees are getting international recognition. This is an indication that most of the referees are professional,\u201d Kalichero said.<\/p>\n
Botswana will play Mauritius in the first leg of Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers. In other games to be played this weekend in women\u2019s Afcon qualifiers, Kenya face the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n
