Thunders Volleyball Club maintained their dominance of the game in the Southern Region when they lifted the inaugural K600,000 FMB Invitational Trophy.<\/p>\n
Thunders won the FMB trophy at Malawi University of Science and Technology in Thyolo on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The tournament had six teams in the competitive category, with Thunders coming out victorious in all their five games.<\/p>\n
For emerging victorious, the Southern Region Volleyball League champions got K150,000 and a trophy.<\/p>\n
The team went on to sweep all the three individual awards that went to James Mangani, Ken Kasasi and Kondwani Kapyongo.<\/p>\n
Runners-up Cobbe Artillery went back home with K100,000 while third-pl aced Thyolo Smashers were rewarded with K50,000.<\/p>\n
In the five-team socials category, FMB Socials were winners with a K40,000 prize and a trophy.<\/p>\n
Reserve Bank of Malawi and Cobbe Madala emerged second and third, winning themselves cash prizes of K30,000 and K20,000 respectively.<\/p>\n
Individual prizes in this category went to Chindikani Chirwa of FMB, Brian Banda also of FMB and Nancy Ngwira of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.<\/p>\n
Fourth-placed teams in both categories also got cash prizes. In addition to the cash prizes, T-shirts and umbrellas were also given out.<\/p>\n
First Merchant Bank Head of Human Resources Tonny Chirwa said the turn up was in line with what they had expected.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has motivated us to bring this tournament back. We have just started. Expect more from us,\u201d pledged Chirwa.<\/p>\n
