Archrivals, Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers, have an opportunity to size up each other ahead of 2016 Super League season when they face-off in the inaugural Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Charity Shield early March.<\/p>\n
Fam competitions manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said the competition would be played every season on the onset of the league season to raise funds for the FA.<\/p>\n
With this season set to kick-off on April 9, Bullets and Wanderers would square up on April 2 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe teams that will be meeting in the Charity Shield are the league champions and national cup champions. By national cup, we are referring to the Presidential Cup. But since we have not had the Presidential Cup for the past two years, the Carlsberg Cup champions (Wanderers) will compete this year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Fam\u2019s competitions committee has not yet decided on the shield\u2019s prize money.<\/p>\n
Wanderers\u2019 assistant coach, Elia Kananji, said the match was important for the Nomads\u2019 coaching panel to fully assess players ahead of the new season.<\/p>\n
\u201cA good result in this match will also ease the pressure on the players. We look forward to this match because it will also help us discover the weak areas we should work on before the league starts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bullets\u2019 technical director, Billy Tewesa, also gave a thumbs-up to the match.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the perfect opportunity to show that we are ready for the league title-defence. Since we will also play an international friendly against Dynamos of Zimbabwe, this match will add to our good preparations for the league,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
