Central Region Football Association (CRFA) general secretary, Bernard Chiwiriwiri Harawa, on Saturday demanded an improved subvention package from Football Association of Malawi (Fam).<\/p>\n
Harawa, speaking after Fam finance director Christopher Mdolo\u2019s 2016 budget presentation, noted that the current K200,000 which Fam gives regional associations undermines their constitutional mandate of grassroots football development.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate. You are talking about grassroots football, but yet you are neglecting regional associations by giving them K200,000 which is not enough,\u201d Harawa said.<\/p>\n
Fam president, Walter Nyamilandu, said the concern was valid and it will be tabled by his executive committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore this meeting, we did not receive any request for a review of the subvention, but we can sit down and review that,\u201d Nyamilandu said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, National Coaches Association\u2019s acting-general secretary, Benjamin Nyirenda, diverting from a debate on coaches\u2019 minimum qualifications, schooled the delegates not to misuse the word grassroots football.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen talking about grassroots football, we mean that involving Under-12, Under-10 and Under-eight. We mean that which is played on the street by children. It\u2019s not Premier Division or Division One,\u201d Nyirenda said in a thin-veiled attack on the regional associations which apparently manage premier division, division one and two leagues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
