{"id":19254,"date":"2016-02-21T11:41:16","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T09:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=19254"},"modified":"2016-02-21T11:41:16","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T09:41:16","slug":"mutharika-admonishes-cruel-chiefs-elevates-ngongoliwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/02\/21\/mutharika-admonishes-cruel-chiefs-elevates-ngongoliwa\/","title":{"rendered":"Mutharika admonishes cruel chiefs, elevates Ngongoliwa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika on Saturday warned chiefs in the country against harassing their subjects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am giving you final warnings, some of such chiefs are here some are not, but I am warning you against grabbing land from your subjects, beating people, cruelty and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>I have the powers to send such chiefs on a long holiday or even fire you,\u201d said Mutharika during the elevation of Traditional Authority Ngolongoliwa as Senior Chief of the Lhomwe ethnic grouping.<\/p>\n<p>Mutharika said chiefs must be good examples of those advocating for unity in the country, stressing that he had NEED HELP\u2014Women like these are encouraged to sleep in mosquito nets decided to elevate Ngongoliwa because he was levelheaded, hardworking and an example of a good leader who strives that Malawians should live in harmony and unity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChiefs should and must advocate patriotism, love, hard work, development and be agents of helping Malawi curb corruption. This time around, I urge you chiefs to be in the forefront checking out those Admarc officials and vendors that are conniving to sell and buy Admarc maize corruptly at the expense of poor masses who are failing to get such maize because of such manipulation,\u201d said Mutharika.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can a sane person make others suffer by selling [Admarc] maize to vendors who in turn sell at an exorbitant price?<\/p>\n<p>I will soon talk of the state of maize and food, I have heard that there is maize in many Admarc markets, but Admarc officials are corrupt and selling the maize to vendors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On patriotism, Mutharika said it was sad that many Malawians, chiefs inclusive, lack the spirit of patriotism and thrives on backbiting, castigating each other and fault-finding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs Malawi still the Warm Heart of Africa? Why don\u2019t we love our fellow nationals \u2013 or now we are only warm to strangers [foreigners]? It is sad that people just oppose things [done by government] for the sake of it; this will never help Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilding this country is the responsibility of all of us, let sanity prevail, let us be patriotic and I urge chiefs to be advocates of patriotism,\u201d said Mutharika.<\/p>\n<p>His statement came after sentiments expressed by Democratic Progressive Party [DPP] Secretary General Eclain Kudomtoni and Regional Governor Charles Mchacha, who told the masses that gathered that there were some people in government and parastatals that were deliberately frustrating Mutharika\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe system of government we voted for in this country was multiparty democracy, so when there are elections and someone wins like our beloved president did, let us all support him and not deliberately try to frustrated his efforts,\u201d said Kudomtoni.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Chief Ngolingoliwa is currently the most senior of the LHomwe chiefs in the country, and Mutharika hinted \u201csomething big\u201d was coming towards the chieftainship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika on Saturday warned chiefs in the country against harassing their subjects. \u201cI am giving you final warnings, some of such chiefs are here some are not, but I am warning you against grabbing land from your subjects, beating people, cruelty and corruption.
