TNM has presented awards to winners in the Smart Kid category of the ongoing Smart Challenge competition which provided a platform for students to showcase innovations in mobile application development for the benefit of their communities.<\/p>\n
The awards follow feedback from members of the general public to TNM\u2019s opening of voting in the competition.<\/p>\n
TNM marketing manager, Madalitso Jonazi, said the children awarded come out top for the months of October, November, December and January in the category which was open to kids aged 5 and 12.<\/p>\n
They competed by playing \u2018Smart Kid\u2019 \u2013 an intellectual game under the TNM Game Time platform where each competitor accumulated scores based on their performance.<\/p>\n
The winners, Deriwe Mpesi from Chimwankhunda Primary School in Blantyre and Chifundo Magombo of Mpinji Primary School in Thyolo, received state of the art JS T700
\ntablets.<\/p>\n
Mpesi, a standard 7 pupil at Chimwakhunda Primary School, said the game has helped her to excel in her education.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m currently doing well in class and I would like to encourage other pupils to start playing it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Jonazi said voting in the Smart Kids categories like in all other categories has received an overwhelming response from the general public.<\/p>\n
Voters can do so by sending a participant\u2019s code to 575 or through the website smartchallenge.tnm.co.mw.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are calling on the public to participate in the voting process which will run up to February 21, 2016,\u201d said Jonazi.<\/p>\n
There are 30 entries that have made it into the final list of the competition.<\/p>\n
Launched on October 5, 2015 the challenge gives students, pupils and their communities a platform to showcase innovations in mobile application development.<\/p>\n
The Smart Challenge is in three categories of Smart Kid for pupils, Smart Student for scholars in tertiary education institutions and Smart Community for their institutions.<\/p>\n
Grand winners in the competition will travel to United States of America\u2019s Silicon Valley where they will tour Facebook, Google, Apple and Stanford University. Others will win Smart devices and computers for school labs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
