The African Union (AU) Regional Delegate to Southern Africa Auguste Ngomo Tuesday paid a courtesy call to Times Media Group where he had a meeting with the Group\u2019s Managing Director Leonnard Chikadya and Editor-in-Chief George Kasakula.<\/p>\n
Later in an interview, Ngomo said he is on a mission to sell AU\u2019s Agenda 2063 which has incorporated different visions and plans from the continent\u2019s nations to inform a strategic framework for the socio-economic transformation of the continent over the next 50 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe come from a background where Africa emerged from different kingdoms that never used to know what the other was doing until the independence that the states attained through colonisation and we have built seven pillars that will integrate and provide a prosperous and peaceful Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ngomo said the Agenda builds on, and seeks to accelerate the implementation of past and existing continental initiatives for growth and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
He said the AU has started popularising the Agenda through meeting with the media and civil society organisations as they strive to let the citizens of Africa to take charge and create a borderless continent.<\/p>\n
Among others the Agenda has used some of the past and current initiatives to build itself and these include the Lagos Plan of Action, the Abuja Treaty, The Minimum Integration Programme, the Programme for Infrastructural Development in Africa (PIDA), the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP), and the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (Nepad).<\/p>\n
Ngomo who is resident in Malawi also said regional and national plans and programmes as well as national, regional, continental best practices have been incorporated in its formulation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
