It was a typical case of one door closing and another one opening for Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Monday.<\/p>\n
Barely a week after losing Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup funding, Fam breathed a sigh of relief after signing a five-year K40 million cup sponsorship pre-contract with Fisd Company Limited in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
His voice cracking and his hand shaking with emotions, Fam president, Walter Nyamilandu, penned the deal with the Lilongwe agro-business Fisd\u2019s managing director, Frank Mwenechanya, inside a crammed John Zingale Theatre at Mpira Village (formerly Chiwembe Technical and Development Centre).<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I heard the news, I couldn\u2019t stop pinching myself. It\u2019s hard to believe that you have responded in such a short time in this day and age when inflation and cost of living are high,\u201d Nyamilandu said in his speech.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very grateful as competition is our life blood. Take out competition, then we have no reason to remain in office. I am happy that when one door closes, another opens. This is for only Super League clubs, and more details will be announced later.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mwenechanya, who was accompanied by Fisd officials, said the five-year sponsorship was subject to review annually.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter we heard that Standard Bank Cup Knock-Out fell vacant, we thought that, as a company, we can come in and sponsor the cup. As part of our corporate social responsibility, we felt it is high time we gave back to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new cup fills the void created by Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup\u2019s exit, while adding on to Carlsberg Cup and Presidential Initiative for Sports Cup. The new season kicks off in April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
