Two employees of Malawi Post Corporations (MPC) have been charged with forgery and uttering fake documents.<\/p>\n
The two, are Gibson Magadamika of Kalama Village Traditional Authority(T\/A) Khongoni in Lilongwe, who was working as a messenger and cleaner at Lumbadzi Post Office and Gidnes Chaima, of Jiya Village T\/A Somba Blantyre, who was working as Postal Assistant at Mzimba Post Office.<\/p>\n
It is said that Magadamika, who paid K1,500 to acquire a fake certificate, is a holder of Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) but managed to get an MSCE Certificate forged in his name by One Samson Mweso who operates a photocopying business at Lumbadzi Trading Centre.<\/p>\n
Mzimba Police Station Officer, Louis Chigadula, said Chaima is remanded at Mzimba Prison.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can confirm that an employee of MPC in Mzimba was arrested over a certificate issue. Information we have is that in 2002 he wrote MSCE but he failed. The MSCE certificate he has been using is not his. He appeared in court on Wednesday and the case is expected to be back in court on February 17, 2016. He is currently remanded at Mzimba Prison,\u201d Assistant Commissioner of Police Chigadula said.<\/p>\n
Kamuzu International Airport (Kia) Police spokesperson Sapulain Chitonde, speaking on behalf of Lumbadzi Police Station, said Magadamika and Mweso are in police custody.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two will appear before Mkukula First Grade Magistrate\u2019s Court to answer charges of forgery and uttering false documents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) spokesperson, Simeon Maganga, urged employers to verify with the Board the certificates their prospective employees give them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can only plead with employers and training institutions to always send certificates of their potential employees and potential students for vetting. Copies (photocopies) of the certificates could be sent to Maneb in person or through e-mail and we vet free of charge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added:<\/p>\n
\u201cCertificate vetting is very important as it allows only deserving candidates to secure places for either employment or school\/ training, hence contributing positively to national development.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maganga said when such cases occur, the suspects are charged with the offence of uttering false document, which is contrary to Section 360 of Penal Code.<\/p>\n
