They have the power within themselves to change and become sober, but they still go on drinking waiting for someone to rescue them.

Whereas friends and family are there to give us tools and knowledge to make a better decision about our lives, the onus lies with oneself to take the first step towards any change in our lives.

Similarly, many people who are on the verge of divorce or facing marital problems tend to whine and groan over how their life is becoming miserable by the day instead of focusing on their personal happiness. It is important to appreciate that the quality of life is determined by the person living it.

Some spend time trying to change their partners to become better and in turn love and respect them. However, if truth be told, the person they should be spending more time on or controlling is themselves.

To become the person you need takes commitment, love and understanding. First, you need to define where you are coming from, where you are and where you want to be over a stated period of time.

By changing some of the personality traits that make you groan at your own life, you will discover a whole new meaning of life.

However, one more important thing worth accepting is that when assessing our lives and deciding to change for the better, the key lies in accepting that which we cannot become. Despite the saying that the sky is the limit, there are some things that are completely out of our bounds.

In other words, have practical targets as this helps us to focus our energies on things we can achieve than moving in circles accomplishing nothing.

Life is a gift from God; hence, it is only proper that we plan to live it the way we would want to explain to a friend if we had it perfect.

Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, said: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

This only cements the reality that before we can dream about changing the world and discovering the same, as human beings, we must change ourselves and discover our inner self.
