I need the truth about where my money went because I worked for it and it belongs to me,” he complained.

Sangano said he, in vain, inquired from Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) general secretary, Blackson Malamula, about his money.

Allan Nkhonjera, who coached Yamba school team, said while Malamula insists that the money was deposited, the school only received the school’s prize money. Nkhonjera is also Massa Northern Region chairperson.

Yamba CDSS head teacher, Iron Longwe, said after getting communication about the deposit, he and Nkhonjera went to NBS bank Chitipa Branch where they found the K1 million, minus Sangano’s prize money.

“We got a bank statement dating back to two months, but no K50, 000 deposit was indicated. The general secretary insisted that he deposited the cash. We, therefore, demand that he sends us the deposit slip,” Longwe said.

Malamula confirmed that the sponsor, Airtel Malawi, through its then employee Emmanuel Kaunda, deposited the cash, but got surprised when Sangano called asking for the same.

“My friend, I don’t deal with students but schools. The school should contact me if there are problems. How can Sangano fail to get his prize money when his friend in the girls’ category, Temwa Chabinga, got her K50, 000?” questioned Malamula.

Malamula then suggested that the school’s administration should bring the association the bank statement as a way forward.

“The chairperson Nkhonjera is from that school and he knows the procedures on handling issues at the association. He was here in Lilongwe, but never talked about that. Let them bring the statement and we will give them back their transportation. Or else, let them take the statement to the Education Division office in the North and lodge their complaints,” he added.

Kaunda confirmed depositing all the prize money, but referred the reporter to Malamula for more information.

Sangano is now at Mzuzu University Football Club where he is trying his luck with the university’s team.

Some K50,000 meant for 2015 Airtel Rising Star’s football Player-of-the Tournament, Luckson Sangano, has reportedly gone missing at his former school, Yamba Community Day Secondary.
