{"id":18460,"date":"2016-02-10T09:50:21","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T07:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=18460"},"modified":"2016-02-10T09:52:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T07:52:42","slug":"ministry-storms-mz-over-thin-plastic-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/02\/10\/ministry-storms-mz-over-thin-plastic-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry storms MZ over thin plastic ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining stormed Mzuzu on Tuesday to warn traders, manufacturers and distributors of plastic bags with less than 60 microns to stop trading in the product in compliance with the ban imposed by the government last year.<\/p>\n<p>The officers did not confiscate any banned plastic bags nor arrested those found selling them but said the awareness campaign should also be taken as a warning to those still trading in the plastics that authorities will start actively enforcing the ban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to ensure that all whole sellers and retailers as well as users of plastics start using thick plastic bags of 60 microns and above,\u201d said Sangwani Phiri, spokesperson for the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>He said the ministry is conducting awareness meetings in all the major cities of the country so that when confiscation process starts, the ministry should not be blamed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment is urging every manufacturer to modify their machines or even import new machines that can manufacture thick plastics,\u201d said Phiri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining stormed Mzuzu on Tuesday to warn traders, manufacturers and distributors of plastic bags with less than 60 microns to stop trading in the product in compliance with the ban imposed by the government last year.
