Organisation (Mado) says it is concerned with lack of doping knowledge among local athletes and officials.<\/p>\n
Doping is an athlete\u2019s use of prohibited drugs or methods to improve training and sporting results.<\/p>\n
Mado board chairperson, James Mwenda, said this on Friday in Blantyre during a press briefing.<\/p>\n
He also disclosed plans to launch a systematic sensitisation campaign to stop athletes and officials from using illegal performance-enhancing drugs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea is to sensitise athletes and officials on the dangers of doping. As you are aware, doping is an enemy of sport. Malawi has taken a bold step to address doping issues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mwenda said, so far, Malawi appears clean after 13 athletes drawn from football, netball and boxing underwent tests and tested negative for illegal drug use.<\/p>\n
Mwenda said they had requested calendars of events from sport associations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want them to give us a calendar of their major events, so that we can take them unawares and conduct doping. We also want the associations to factor doping issues in their constitutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) president, Oscar Kanjala, who was present during the press briefing, said there was need for collaborated efforts to overcome doping.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are two kinds of tests. The first are in-competition tests. Under these, all medal winners and a random selection from the rest, are tested for drugs during international competitions. The second are out-of-competition tests.
