Malawi Defence Force (MDF) lightweight boxer, Chrispin Moliyati, has suffered a blow as he will not be able to vie for World Boxing Forum (WBF) belt this month in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Moliyati earned the international fight’s ticket after defeating promising boxer, Raston Kayira during the Iron Fist bill at Robins’ Park in Blantyre on December 18.<\/p>\n
However, sources indicate that South African promoters have rejected the Malawian because boxrecor.com shows that the boxer has fewer fights.<\/p>\n
Boxrec.com is a website which is used all over the world by stakeholders, including promoters and match-makers, to check records before granting boxers fights.<\/p>\n
Moliyati said he was upset with the development, and asked Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) to intervene and update records.<\/p>\n
According to boxrec.com, Moliyati has six fights having won, drawn and lost twice each.<\/p>\n
However, Moliyati\u2019s handbook shows that he has 34 fights, winning 28, losing four and drawing twice.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor boxers that solely survive on boxing, then this is a setback. We need the board to help us update the records,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions managing director, Craig Rousseau, who was promoting the international fight, said he was equally disappointed.<\/p>\n
MPBCB president, Lonzoe Zimba, said the onus of updating is on all stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou must bear in mind that most of those fights happened during Malawi Boxing Association era. When we started administering professional boxing, we asked all the boxers to submit passport-size photographs and copies of handbooks but very few did,” Zimba said.<\/p>\n
