Wizards FC technical director, Peter Mponda, has admitted that securing sponsorship will be tough following the team\u2019s relegation from the TNM Super League last season.<\/p>\n
Mponda said this during the week having recently parted ways with Fisd Company Limited over disagreements on the former sponsors\u2019 demand that the club should relocate from Blantyre to Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s difficult getting a sponsor because we are now in Premier Division. As you are aware, even many Super League teams are also struggling to secure sponsorship,\u201d Mponda explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, there are one or two companies that have shown interest. We believe that with the talent that we displayed last season, some sponsors would be compelled to do justice to these gems by providing them financial support.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wizards broke ranks with Surestream Academy last season before securing Fisd sponsorship, only for the marriage to hit the rocks again.<\/p>\n
There are also fears that, having sold key players such as Levison Maganizo and Brighton Munthali to Silver Strikers, Rafik Namwera and Ernest Tambe to Be Forward Wanderers, Wizards might struggle to instantly bounce back into the top-flight league next season.<\/p>\n
However, the ever-optimistic former Malawi national football team captain Mponda insisted that his team has enough depth, citing players such as Mike Mkwate and Peter Msowoya.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn total, we expect to lose eight players as Mark Fodya and Thuso Paipi are also undergoing trials at Silver, who have also signed Steve Micheta, whereas Godfrey Masonda is club-hunting in Mozambique,\u201d Mponda said.<\/p>\n
Teams from Southern Region Premier Division hardly return to the Super League once promoted with the likes of Blantyre United, Evirom, Bvumbwe Research, Cobbe Barracks and Nchalo United still in the second tier league.<\/p>\n
TNM Super League clubs such as Epac, Max Bullets, Dwangwa and Mzuni do not have sponsorship.<\/p>\n
Roughly, it costs K40 million to run a team in the top-flight in return for K15 million Super League championship, K8 million and K9 million for Carlsberg Cup and Standard Bank top prizes respectively.<\/p>\n
Each Super League club also receives K1 million grant from league sponsors TNM annually.<\/p>\n
