Our role is to also encourage religious bodies to fulfill their prophetic and religious roles, and respond to the socio-economic and political affairs of the Republic of Malawi. Therefore Pac’s mandate remains the same as it was before, there is no change at all,” Phiri said.

Phiri further said the overarching principle Pac has been advocating is transformative leadership and when there is need for their intervention they do what is required.

“The board reached at this agreement following the fact that Pac sought commitment from presidential candidates in 2014 with an overall goal to hold leaders accountable. This was to be concretised by implementation of the 19 issues discussed with the candidates. The overarching principle Pac has been advocating is transformative leadership,” he said.

Responding to government’s commitment towards the programme, Phiri said so far the organisation has already engaged the government to secure its participation in the deliberations.

Influential quasi-religious democracy watchdog, the Public Affairs Committee (Pac) is set to conduct an all-inclusive stakeholders’ conference meeting that will tackle issues regarding the economic and political status of the country.
