The reason for giving them that 12 percent was that they were supposed to use it for marketing to make more money for the team. So when only we are able to do that, there is no reason for them to get their gate share,” he said.

Gaffar said the club lost money last season due to the supporters’ failure to roll out marketing initiatives.

He, however, did not elaborate on whether the trustees were aware of how the supporters used the share of gate revenue they received last season.

Wanderers’ chairperson, George Chamangwana, said there was no specific arrangement to give the supporters money for income-generating activities.

“If the trustee mentioned it, I cannot comment anything on that because I am not aware of the arrangement,” he said.

Former Wanderers supporters’ committee chairperson, Dinnes Chitsulo, said they had an arrangement with the executive committee to receive part of the gate revenue.

“We were entitled to 10 percent of the revenue. The money was used to pay the guys that were manning the gates and the balance would be used for other activities aimed at helping the club,” he said.

Meanwhile, newly-elected supporters’ chairperson, Yamikani Kaliyapa, said his committee would set up committees, including for marketing, to help the club generate more revenue.

“We will work with everybody, including the former committee members, to make sure that we put the interest of the club first. We surely want to play a major role in helping the club make more money,” he said.

Kaliyapa was elected amid drama at Wanderers club House on Saturday when former chief supporter, Yona Malunga, climbed a brick wall after failing to force a gate open for his followers to enter.
