Newly-appointed Civo United coach, Millias Jegwe Pofera, says he is looking forward to building a strong squad capable of challenging for trophies next season.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Pofera replaced Oscar Kaunda, who was fired on Friday as the club took a bold step to implement Club Licensing System on basic qualifications of Super League coaches.<\/p>\n
Pofera, who signed a two-year deal with the government-sponsored side, on Sunday said his targets would be to win a trophy in his first season at Civo.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know Civo is a big club with rich history but I\u2019m not under pressure to impress. I will do my job to make the club one of the strongest next season,\u201d Pofera said.<\/p>\n
The former Dedza Young Soccer tactician was also linked with a move to Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets, but said he chose Civo because they came up with a serious offer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was doing window shopping and I finally got the right job at Civo. The club is my new home, and I am confident that I will be successful. I also chose Civo because I know there is job security unlike other teams,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
On beefing up the squad, Pofera said he would only comment after assessing his team.<\/p>\n
Pofera faces a daunting task to keep three Civo keys players, Nelson Kangunje, Emmanuel Zoya and John Lanjesi, who are linked with Wanderers and Bullets respectively.<\/p>\n
Under the tutelage of Kaunda, Civo ended a five-year cup drought to win the Standard Bank Cup.<\/p>\n
Despite failing to keep Dedza in the top-flight league last season, Pofera was among the most sought-after coaches in the domestic league.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
