Veteran golfer Bashir Shariff was in the form of his life, starting his game with a bogey and several two-pointers on the first hole, before winning the Telecom Systems Ball Pool at Blantyre Sports Club on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Shariff counted out to second place Andrew Ngomwa on 20 points during the tournament that attracted 64 golfers. Shariff was in double joy after getting the nearest to-the-pin two on the ninth.<\/p>\n
He said the victory was a manifestation that senior golfers still have it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is good because we are giving out the story that seniors should never be ruled out because the experience is there. We are also playing against youngsters and for us to do well it shows that there is a lot in us. It makes you to stand up proud because it is not easy to beat 63 good players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Arnes Araujo won the ladies\u2019 category with 17 points while Connie Karuku\u2019s 14 points saw her finish second.<\/p>\n
In the corporate partners\u2019 category, Andrew Nseula won the crown after counting out 14-handicap Eric Chapola on 17 points.<\/p>\n
In the other subsidiary prizes, Shiraz Mojoo won the nearest-to-the-pin on hole five.<\/p>\n
Telecom Systems Limited operations director, Harold Coombes, said the tournament provided them perfect opportunity to interact with their customers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is part of celebrating our 25 years of doing business in Malawi. We thought of using golf because most of the golf players are our business partners. We are impressed with how the tournament was competed. Having 64 golfers on a Wednesday is not a joke,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
