{"id":17795,"date":"2016-01-29T08:36:49","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T06:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=17795"},"modified":"2016-01-29T08:36:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T06:36:49","slug":"actress-mhango-chavula-learns-about-award-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/29\/actress-mhango-chavula-learns-about-award-late\/","title":{"rendered":"Actress Mhango Chavula learns about award late"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/mhango1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17797\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/mhango1-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"mhango\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/mhango1-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/mhango1.jpg 319w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a>Actress Joyce Mhango Chavula has learnt that her movie <em>Lilongwe <\/em>scooped the Best Actress Award at the Shungu Namutitima Film Festival in Zambia very late.<\/p>\n<p>The award was given last year in August but the actress, who has received a nomination in the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs) for the same movie to be held in Nigeria in March, only learnt about it on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe movie <em>Lilongwe <\/em>got an Actress Award which went to Brenda Mselu but I only got the information on Wednesday after the organisers asked me if I had received the award,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula said she sent the film for possible screening but she never got feedback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe I missed it until now when the festival director wrote me asking if we received the award yet,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The actress said she got information about the festival through Arterial Network adding that this is an international festival and that only African films go into the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough late but I am excited that I have got the first international award for the film. This simply gives me strength to push further and do better. And this is also encouraging for Brenda as an actress,\u201d said Mhango Chavula.<\/p>\n<p>The vice president of National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) and Film Association of Malawi (Fama) said she was now following up with them to make sure that the award gets to them.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Mhango Chavula is still calling for more votes from Malawians to do well in the AMVCAs.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula received a nomination in one of the newly introduced categories &#8211; Best Movie for Southern Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees were announced late last year and the public voting opened immediately after the announcement and closes on February 26, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula faces competition from Sara Bletcher for her movie titled <em>Ayanda <\/em>and Akin Omotosho\u2019s T<em>ell Me Something. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lilongwe is a story of a 13- year old girl who later grows into a beautiful young woman but is still haunted by her past.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Actress Joyce Mhango Chavula has learnt that her movie Lilongwe scooped the Best Actress Award at the Shungu Namutitima Film Festival in Zambia very late.
